Goiniometer | |
The Goiniometer is equipped
with a 10k potentiometer at the pivot point of a standard knee brace.
The analog signal from the potentiometer is digitized by a TNG-3B.
The signal, which denotes angle of flexion or extension, is displayed
graphically and numerically on NeatTools. The signal can be stored
as well as remotely viewed in real time.
Tele-rehab applications such as this encourage people with time and distance obstacles to continue with the therapies they need in order to reach an optimal level of functioning. Two hours have been devoted to test data transmission from the goiniometer in Hawaii to ECU in eastern North Carolina. Information on the setup for these tests is here. |

Grip Test |
|
The Grip Test uses NeatTools
and TNG-3B to digitize and store information. It facilitates
accurate readings, eliminates manual recording, and facilitates remote
analysis.

Neat Evaluation and Testing (NEAT) | |
A JAVA based program that will
reproduce attributes of traditional paper/ pencil tests on to a computer
screen. The testee can then respond to the questions with a mouse or
other interface. It is the "other" interface that NEAT was
first conceptualized for; to give people who can not respond to most
tests the opportunity to do so. The interface toolkit for Neat has both
a software and hardware component. The software is JoyMouse, a NeatTools
program. The Hardware consists of TNG-3B (pronounced "thing")
and a few basic sensors. Together, they take any input and turn it into
a command that controls the mouse. It comes as a toolkit to assure the
interface is adapted to the user and not the other way around, as is the
often challenging case with most interfaces.
NEAT will help educators and evaluators assess the attributes and abilities of consumers with severe disabilities. Why is this important? Otherwise, it is very difficult, and often time renders it impossible, to tap into the mind of a severely disabled person. Once an appropriate interface has been developed more suitable plans for higher quality of life, education, and vocation can be collaborated upon.
